U.S. diplomat Zalmay Khalilzad praised the conduct of Iraq’s recent parliamentary elections, noting that they proceeded smoothly and peacefully across the country. He emphasized the importance of the elections in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting political stability in the region.
Khalilzad also highlighted the remarkable performance of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), led by President Masoud Barzani. He pointed out that preliminary results show the KDP securing more than one million votes, reflecting strong support from the Kurdish population.
