ERBIL – Berivan Aymaz, deputy speaker of the North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) state parliament in Germany, praised President Masoud Barzani for his efforts in stabilizing Western Kurdistan. She said Barzani has played a central role in easing tensions in Rojava and fostering Kurdish unity. Aymaz also urged Germany to continue strong political, economic, and cultural engagement with the Kurdistan Region.
Speaking at a forum in Erbil on Tuesday, Aymaz emphasized that President Barzani’s diplomacy has helped prevent further escalation in Kurdish-majority areas of Syria. She noted that his leadership strengthened cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and international partners. Furthermore, she highlighted the importance of ongoing dialogue between Kurdish political movements across borders.
The lawmaker called for Germany to expand its support for the Kurdistan Region. She specifically mentioned investments in infrastructure, education, and humanitarian programs. Aymaz argued that sustained engagement would reinforce regional stability and create opportunities for growth. She also praised the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to protecting civilians amid conflicts in neighboring areas.
Additionally, Aymaz pointed to the Kurdish leadership’s role in defending Rojava against extremist groups.
