Masrour Barzani Plants First Tree in Erbil’s Green Belt Project

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani launched the Erbil Green Belt Project by planting the first tree, marking the official start of a major environmental initiative aimed at protecting the city’s ecosystem and improving air quality.

During the ceremony, Barzani emphasized that this project represents a long-term investment in Kurdistan’s environment and public health. He stated that “a greener Kurdistan means a healthier and more sustainable future for everyone.”

The project will create a vast green zone surrounding Erbil, serving as a natural barrier against pollution and desertification. Barzani explained that this initiative reflects the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) commitment to fighting climate change and preserving natural resources.

He also urged citizens and private companies to take part in the campaign, highlighting that community participation is essential for lasting environmental protection. The Prime Minister added that similar projects will soon begin in other major cities across the Kurdistan Region.

Barzani concluded by saying that the government aims to make the Kurdistan Region a regional model for sustainability and environmental awareness through collective action and innovation.
