Masrour Barzani Reaffirms KDP’s Role in Defending Kurdish Rights and Stability

Masrour Barzani, Deputy Leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), met with senior party members in Erbil to discuss the evolving political landscape in Iraq and the broader region. He emphasized the KDP’s commitment to safeguarding Kurdish rights and maintaining regional stability.

Barzani stressed that the Kurdistan Region must never pose a threat or source of instability to any party. Instead, it should remain a pillar of peace and security across the Middle East. He believes this role strengthens both Kurdistan and its neighbors.

He praised President Masoud Barzani for uniting Kurdish factions, especially in Syrian Kurdistan. Barzani also highlighted the party’s efforts supporting peace initiatives with the Kurdish movement in Turkey, which promote reconciliation.

Regarding relations between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Baghdad, Barzani described current tensions as political rather than technical. He criticized Baghdad’s approach as unfair and unconstitutional toward the Kurdistan Region. Barzani insisted that Iraq’s federal system recognizes Kurdistan’s constitutional status, which must be respected.

He firmly stated that the Kurdistan Region will not give up any of its constitutional rights. This unwavering stance reflects the KDP’s dedication to protecting Kurdish interests.

Barzani also noted that a KRG delegation is currently in Baghdad working to resolve salary disputes impacting the Kurdish people. He expressed hope for a swift resolution that benefits the region’s citizens.

Throughout the meeting, Barzani reinforced that the KDP stands as the foremost defender of Kurdish rights and constitutional guarantees. He said, “A stronger KDP means a stronger Kurdistan.” This message highlights the party’s central role in advancing Kurdish aspirations.

Barzani added that the KDP will continue its efforts backed by divine support and the patriotic will of the Kurdish people. The party aims to build on past successes and move toward a more prosperous future for Kurdistan.

As Iraq navigates complex political challenges, Barzani’s message underscores the importance of Kurdish unity and firm defense of regional rights. The KDP’s role remains vital in shaping Kurdistan’s future and ensuring peace across Iraq and the wider Middle East.
