The Kurdistan Regional Government is set to provide an additional 60 billion dinars to support farmers, following earlier allocations from Iraq’s agricultural budget. In total, around 500 billion dinars have been spent nationwide to assist farmers, with the Kurdistan Region receiving a significant share.
During the past days, the first phase of funding distributed 57 billion dinars to farmers across the region. The breakdown included 20 billion dinars for Erbil, 25 billion for Sulaymaniyah and Halabja, and 12 billion dinars for Duhok. Farmers received these funds through local silos, allowing them to access their financial support directly.
Heman Said Murad, General Director of Agriculture in Erbil, stated that the Ministry of Trade in Iraq has coordinated to ensure the funds are released promptly. He noted that by Thursday, the additional 60 billion dinars are expected to reach farmers in the Kurdistan Region, further supporting agricultural activities and local production.
The new allocation will bring the total support for Kurdish farmers to approximately 200 billion dinars, including both past and upcoming disbursements. This financial backing aims to enhance productivity, provide necessary resources, and stabilize agricultural livelihoods in the region.
Farmers across Kurdistan rely on these funds to purchase seeds, fertilizers, and other essentials. Officials emphasized the importance of timely delivery and fair distribution to all four governorates to ensure the benefits reach every farming community.
The ongoing support highlights the regional government’s commitment to strengthening agriculture and improving economic conditions for rural populations in Kurdistan.
