Nechirvan Barzani Touted as Ambassador of Peace

Iranian officials have once again described Nechirvan Barzani as an “ambassador of peace” for his regional diplomatic role. During a televised program on Monday, Iranian diplomat Dr. Habibollah Malakouti Far praised Barzani’s continued efforts to resolve disputes. He emphasized that Barzani’s consistent engagement has helped improve regional ties. According to him, dialogue, not confrontation, leads to lasting solutions. He also reiterated that Iran fully supports bilateral cooperation with its neighbors.

On Sunday, Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, traveled to Tehran to join the “Tehran Dialogue Forum.” During the event, he presented a panel and held separate meetings with Iran’s president, parliament speaker, and foreign minister. Observers from the Kurdish media, attending the forum, highlighted how Barzani clearly expressed the Kurdistan Region’s perspective. They believed his statements underscored a desire for stability. Several Iranian outlets also echoed support for Barzani’s peaceful diplomacy.

Dr. Malakouti Far, a senior official at Iran’s Foreign Ministry research center, stated that Iran views peace in West Asia as achievable through negotiations. He affirmed that Iran has extended support to all its neighboring states. Moreover, he noted that threats or sanctions yield no productive outcomes. He described diplomacy as the only effective path forward. The message, he stressed, represented the official stance of Iran’s government.

More than 200 diplomatic delegations attended the Tehran Dialogue Forum this year. Malakouti Far described their participation as a positive response to skepticism about Iran’s global role. He dismissed claims of Iran’s isolation as false narratives. Instead, he portrayed Iran as a vital and influential power in the region. He emphasized the importance of shared understanding for regional growth.

On Sunday, Barzani underlined Kurdistan’s historical ties with Iran. He also recalled Iran’s support during the war against ISIS. He emphasized that Iran was the first country to aid Kurdistan in 2014. He said that these shared experiences had strengthened the bonds between both sides. Iran’s timely support, he added, would never be forgotten.

Malakouti Far later commented that Barzani’s visit reaffirmed long-standing friendship between the two governments. He insisted that this trip showed how both sides understand each other’s priorities. According to him, Barzani’s visit carried a powerful message of mutual respect. He praised both sides for choosing cooperation over division. Once more, he called Barzani an ambassador of peace.

He further noted that the Kurdistan-Iran relationship had deep roots and a record of shared sacrifice. These connections, he said, were not built overnight. Kurdish and Iranian officials had worked closely for many years. He stressed that Kurdish leaders remained among Iran’s strongest allies. Again, he acknowledged Barzani’s consistent role as an ambassador of peace.

In May 2024, Barzani also visited Tehran and met with Iran’s supreme leader and other senior figures. That trip marked a new chapter in Kurdistan-Iran relations. Since then, Iranian media have frequently referred to Barzani as an ambassador of peace. His efforts have continued to define the regional dialogue. Through constant engagement, he has promoted a message of cooperation and hope.
