Taq Taq Oil Field production has officially resumed after nearly two years of suspension. Authorities confirmed that operations restarted with plans to significantly increase output in the coming months.
Production at the Taq Taq oil field halted following the suspension of Kurdistan Region oil exports through Turkey’s Ceyhan port. As a result, energy operations at one of the region’s major oil fields came to a standstill. Now, officials aim to revitalize the sector and strengthen energy development.
Aso Mustafa, district commissioner of Taq Taq, confirmed that a company has begun work to redevelop the field. He stated that engineers and technical teams are preparing all wells for renewed extraction. Moreover, he emphasized that authorities intend to raise production levels in the near future.
According to local officials, Taq Taq oil production previously reached strong levels. Between 2011 and 2016, daily output increased from 66,000 barrels to approximately 130,000 barrels per day. However, production later declined sharply due to technical and export-related challenges.
Current efforts focus on stabilizing operations and restoring consistent daily output. Officials now aim to reach around 8,000 barrels per day in the initial phase of resumed production. Furthermore, redevelopment plans seek to gradually double that figure as infrastructure and export conditions improve.
Energy experts view the restart of Taq Taq oil production as a positive signal for the Kurdistan Region’s broader energy sector. The resumption reflects ongoing attempts to overcome previous disruptions and rebuild export capacity.
In addition, authorities stress that revitalizing oil production supports economic stability. Increased output could strengthen public revenues and create new employment opportunities in surrounding areas.
The restart of Taq Taq oil production marks an important step in restoring confidence in the region’s energy industry. Officials continue to monitor technical operations closely while preparing for potential expansion in the near future.
