Efforts to increase greenery in Erbil and beautify its streets continue, with more than 200 trees and 750 flowers are going to be planted across key public areas. The initiative focuses on enhancing the city’s appearance while promoting environmental balance.
The project, carried out around the Choli Minaret and Sheikh Choli Fountain, comes as part of a broader plan by the Kurdistan Regional Government. The ninth cabinet has placed strong emphasis on environmental preservation and green development, aiming to expand urban greenery and improve public spaces.
Rebin Ahmed, head of Erbil’s Parks Department, confirmed the campaign. He explained that the city launched two separate planting drives on Wednesday. In the first stage, teams planted over 750 flowers of different kinds around the Sheikh Choli Fountain. This effort aimed to decorate one of the city’s busiest and most historic areas.
In the second stage, workers planted more than 200 trees around the Choli Minaret, another landmark location in the heart of Erbil. The initiative not only improves the city’s beauty but also contributes to cleaner air and a healthier environment for residents.
Officials stressed that these campaigns form part of ongoing government efforts. More tree and flower planting drives will continue across Erbil until the end of the current planting season, ensuring a greener and more attractive urban landscape.
