PAK Reports Iranian Missile and Drone Attack on Kurdistan Region Base

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – The Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK), an Iranian opposition group, reported that Iran launched a missile and drone strike on one of its bases in the Kurdistan Region on Wednesday. The attack targeted a facility used by PAK’s armed wing, the Kurdistan National Army (KNA).

PAK stated that the strike occurred in the early hours without specifying the exact location. A video posted by the group showed the aftermath of the alleged attack, including structural damage.

The group confirmed the death of Mozaffar Mohammadzada, known as Nabaz. He served in the logistics unit of the KNA and joined the “caravan of martyrs” of the January uprising in Kurdistan. PAK emphasized that the attack represents Iran’s continued aggression against Kurdish forces.

PAK warned that Iranian attacks will not intimidate Kurdish fighters. “The children of Kurdistan will never bow to the occupying enemy,” the group said. It also reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing Kurdish independence.

The strike comes amid nationwide protests in Iran. Demonstrations erupted in late December after a historic collapse of the rial, Iran’s currency. Internet blackouts and disrupted phone lines have made it difficult to verify casualties independently.

According to a US-based monitoring group, Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), at least 4,519 people have died during three weeks of unrest. The agency also reported nearly 6,000 people injured and more than 26,000 arrests.

Kurdish opposition parties in Iran have sought to unify amid the protests. In early January, seven parties from the Dialogue Center for Inter-Party Cooperation in Iranian Kurdistan, including PAK, met to discuss joint action. The alliance pledged full support for nationwide protests and emphasized coordinated efforts to strengthen the movement.

Analysts note that the latest strike underlines ongoing tensions between Iran and Kurdish opposition groups. Observers warned that escalating violence could worsen regional instability while increasing calls for Kurdish self-determination.
