Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said Baghdad must handle Kurdistan Region salaries in the same manner as salaries across the rest of the country. He stressed that salary payments represent a constitutional right and should remain separate from political disputes or pressure.
Speaking in an interview with Kurdistan24 presenter Ammar Najmaddin on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit in Dubai, Barzani said employees in the Kurdistan Region should not face delays or deductions. He emphasized that teachers, healthcare workers, and civil servants deserve stability and respect. Therefore, he urged federal authorities to commit to equal treatment and regular payments.
Moreover, Barzani said the Kurdistan Regional Government continues dialogue with Baghdad to resolve outstanding financial issues. He explained that cooperation remains the best path forward, especially during economic challenges. However, he warned that withholding Kurdistan Region salaries damages trust and creates unnecessary hardship for citizens.
In addition, the prime minister highlighted growing relations with the United Arab Emirates. He said ties with UAE leadership have strengthened steadily, particularly in economic and political fields. As a result, the Kurdistan Region continues to attract interest in investment, infrastructure, and energy cooperation.
Furthermore, Barzani said his meetings in Dubai focused on expanding partnerships and sharing governance experience. He noted that the World Governments Summit provides an important platform for dialogue with regional and international leaders.
Barzani reaffirmed that the Kurdistan Regional Government will continue defending the rights of its citizens. He added that fair treatment of Kurdistan Region salaries remains a top priority in all discussions with Baghdad.
