Erbil – President Masoud Barzani met with former U.S. diplomat Zalmay Khalilzad to discuss Iraq’s evolving political landscape and the latest developments in the Kurdistan Region.
During their meeting, both leaders exchanged views on the ongoing political process in Baghdad, the preparations for Iraq’s parliamentary elections, and the internal dynamics within the Kurdistan Region.
President Barzani emphasized the importance of maintaining unity among Kurdish political forces and ensuring that Kurdish participation in the upcoming elections remains strong and effective. He also reiterated the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to a stable and democratic Iraq that respects constitutional rights and the federal framework.
Khalilzad, who has long engaged with Kurdish and Iraqi leaders, highlighted the significance of dialogue and cooperation to overcome political tensions and strengthen governance across Iraq.
Both sides agreed that the upcoming elections on November 11 will serve as a critical test for Iraq’s democratic process and for safeguarding the constitutional rights of all communities, including the Kurds.
