ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – President Masoud Barzani has called for a decisive response following more than 450 attacks on the Kurdistan Region in recent weeks. He warned that issuing statements of condemnation alone is no longer enough to ensure the safety of citizens and the region.
In a strong statement, Barzani emphasized that repeated attacks, including drone and missile strikes, have targeted both civilian areas and security forces. He described these actions as deliberate attempts to destabilize the Kurdistan Region and undermine regional security.
“The people of Kurdistan deserve protection, not empty words,” Barzani said. “It is imperative that the Iraqi federal government and the international community take concrete steps to halt these attacks immediately.”
He stressed that security forces in the region have worked tirelessly to intercept threats and minimize casualties. However, he noted that ongoing assaults demonstrate the need for more robust measures and coordinated action with Baghdad and international partners.
Barzani also highlighted the strategic importance of the Kurdistan Region as a stabilizing force in Iraq. He warned that repeated violations of its security could escalate tensions across the wider region.
In addition, he called on all political and security stakeholders to prioritize dialogue, coordination, and decisive action to protect the region’s sovereignty and civilians.
The president concluded by reiterating his commitment to safeguarding the people of Kurdistan. He affirmed that the region will continue to defend itself while seeking support from federal authorities and the international community to prevent further attacks.
Authorities continue monitoring the situation closely, maintaining high alert levels and reinforcing security measures across key areas to prevent any escalation.
This statement marks a firm warning to all parties targeting the Kurdistan Region, emphasizing that future attacks will not go unanswered.
