President Masoud Barzani Discusses Syrian Developments with SDF Commander Abdi

Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani held a telephone conversation with Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander Mazloum Abdi on Saturday. The leaders exchanged detailed assessments of the current situation in Syria and Western Kurdistan.

According to a statement from the Barzani Headquarters, both sides reviewed recent developments, territorial changes, and ongoing security challenges. The discussion focused on measures to protect civilians and maintain stability in Kurdish-majority areas.

President Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to supporting Kurdish communities in Syria. He emphasized the importance of coordination between Kurdish political and military leaders to prevent escalation and promote peace.

Commander Abdi provided updates on the SDF’s efforts to secure Kobani, Afrin, and other key regions. He stressed the need for continued vigilance against terrorist groups, particularly ISIS, which continues to pose a threat in the region.

The leaders also discussed implementing previous agreements between the SDF and the Syrian government. Barzani highlighted that protecting Kurdish rights and autonomy in any future political settlement remains a top priority.

Furthermore, both sides agreed on the importance of involving the international community to support ceasefire adherence and humanitarian assistance. They called on allies to assist in ensuring that civilians remain protected during ongoing tensions.

President Barzani and Commander Abdi concluded the conversation by emphasizing dialogue and cooperation as the most effective means to achieve long-term security. They also agreed to continue regular communication to address emerging challenges in Western Kurdistan and northern Syria.
