ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani said the Kurdistan Region will not pose a threat to Iran or any neighboring country, emphasizing the region’s commitment to stability and peaceful relations.
Speaking amid rising regional tensions, Barzani stressed that the Kurdistan Region seeks balanced relations with all neighboring states. He added that the region will not allow its territory to be used for actions that threaten other countries.
Barzani also called on the Iraqi federal government to take firm steps to curb outlawed armed groups operating outside state authority. He warned that continued attacks by such groups could further destabilize the country and the wider region.
The president emphasized that Baghdad has a responsibility to prevent these groups from carrying out operations that could harm Iraq’s relations with neighboring countries.
His remarks come after a series of security incidents in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in recent days. These developments have raised concerns about escalating tensions across the region.
Barzani noted that stability requires cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad. He said both sides must work together to protect security and prevent further escalation.
He also reiterated that dialogue and political solutions remain the best path to resolve regional disputes.
The Kurdistan Region president concluded by reaffirming that the Kurdistan Region will continue to pursue peaceful relations with its neighbors while safeguarding the security and stability of the region.
