SDF Marks Kobani Anniversary, Calls on World to Defend City

The Syrian Democratic Forces marked the eleventh anniversary of Kobani’s liberation with a strong international appeal. Moreover, the force warned that the city now faces siege and renewed attacks. Therefore, the SDF described Kobani’s protection as a shared global responsibility.

The SDF said Kobani became a worldwide symbol after defeating ISIS. Additionally, the group stressed that the battle changed the course of the fight against terrorism. At that time, Kurdish fighters defended humanity against brutality and genocide.

According to the statement, the liberation proved that oppression always collapses before collective will. Furthermore, the SDF said the victory inspired freedom movements worldwide. Consequently, Kobani gained historic importance beyond Syria.

The SDF recalled how YPG and YPJ fighters confronted ISIS directly. Moreover, they stopped mass killings and ethnic cleansing. As a result, the battle drew a clear line against terror violence.

However, the SDF warned that Kobani again faces serious danger. Armed attacks and blockades now threaten civilians and stability. Therefore, the force said these actions aim to break the city’s spirit.

In addition, the statement warned that targeting Kobani attacks its symbolic role. Such actions, the SDF said, risk reopening space for terrorism. Consequently, instability could spread across northern and eastern Syria.

The SDF reaffirmed its continued fight against ISIS. Moreover, it stressed that security threats affect the entire region. Therefore, silence from global powers weakens counterterrorism efforts.

The force urged the international community to act immediately. Furthermore, it called for protecting the gains achieved through sacrifice. According to the SDF, defending Kobani equals defending global security.

Finally, the SDF emphasized the need for a democratic future in Syria. It called for unity among peoples and international partners. Above all, it said Kobani’s survival represents resistance against extremism.
