Sulaymaniyah Authorities Seize Nearly 1,000 Expired Infant Formula Packs

Local authorities in Sulaymaniyah have confiscated 997 expired packs of infant formula, ensuring that unsafe products are removed from stores and returned to the supplier.

Hiwa Salih, a representative of the Sulaymaniyah Health Directorate, said the seizure followed ongoing inspections of shops, markets, and food storage facilities in the city. Authorities acted to protect public health and prevent expired or unsafe formula from reaching consumers.

The confiscated items were from the commercial brand “Midlak,” including 585 packets of 200 grams and 412 cans of 400 grams. Some packs had been mixed with other formula cartons, which could have posed additional health risks. All items were promptly removed from shelves and secured by the authorities.

Salih added that the confiscation was conducted under the orders of the Sulaymaniyah district office. The supplier is now required to follow legal procedures for handling expired products. Authorities continue to inspect markets to ensure compliance and protect citizens from unsafe food products.

This action highlights the region’s commitment to food safety and consumer protection, particularly for vulnerable groups such as infants.
