Sulaymaniyah Launches Sarchinar Dam Project Tender

Sulaymaniyah is moving forward with the Sarchinar Dam project as the KRG Agriculture Ministry opens a public tender for construction. The ministry invited qualified companies and engineering consultancies to collect tender documents from the General Directorate of Dams and Water Facilities.

Officials stated that the project must be completed within 120 days, and the bid validity period extends for 90 days from the date of submission. Authorities also set daily penalties of 150,000 dinars for any delays, ensuring strict adherence to timelines.

To participate, companies must hold classifications between grades 1 and 9 and provide updated credentials for 2025. Bidders must also submit valid tax clearance certificates and official identification or authorization letters when collecting bid documents. These requirements aim to guarantee professionalism and accountability among participants.

The Sarchinar Dam will store two million cubic meters of water, supporting both local communities and surrounding ecosystems. Once operational, the dam is expected to improve groundwater resources, enhance tourism infrastructure, and provide environmental benefits.

Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani recently conducted a site visit to review the project. During his inspection, he urged authorities to complete all administrative and technical preparations so construction can start immediately. His visit highlighted the government’s commitment to accelerating strategic infrastructure projects in the Kurdistan Region.

Experts also emphasized that the Sarchinar Dam will contribute to regional water management, ensuring a stable supply for agriculture and other sectors. With proper oversight, the project could set a benchmark for future dam construction initiatives in Sulaymaniyah and beyond.

Through transparent tender processes and structured planning, the KRG demonstrates its intent to develop sustainable water and tourism infrastructure while protecting environmental resources.
