UAE companies have started new agricultural projects in Zakho, aiming to increase local production and create jobs. Officials confirmed that these investments follow recent visits by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani to the UAE. During those meetings, he encouraged foreign companies to invest in the Kurdistan Region.
According to Abdulrahman Abdullah, spokesperson for the General Directorate of Investment in Zakho, the projects reflect growing confidence in the region’s stability. He explained that these efforts will modernize farming, improve food supply, and open new opportunities for local workers.
The projects focus on modern agricultural techniques and advanced irrigation systems. Investors believe these methods will raise productivity while protecting natural resources. At the same time, local farmers will gain access to new training and technology.
Moreover, the projects aim to reduce reliance on imported products. By expanding local production, Zakho can meet more of its own needs. This shift will also support food security across the region.
Officials stressed that the partnership with UAE companies marks a new stage of economic cooperation. They underlined that agriculture can become a key driver of growth alongside oil and trade. With steady support, Zakho could transform into a hub for regional agribusiness.
The General Directorate of Investment in Zakho confirmed that more projects may follow. Leaders expect this initiative to inspire other foreign investors to enter the market.
