Prime Minister Masrour Barzani welcomed a top British military delegation in Erbil on Wednesday. The group was led by Edward Ahlgren, the UK’s Senior Defense Advisor for the Middle East and North Africa. British Consul General Andrew Beasley also joined the high-level talks.
The meeting focused on strengthening military cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and the United Kingdom. Both sides stressed the need for continued coordination to enhance regional stability.
Prime Minister Barzani thanked the British government for its ongoing support, especially within the Global Coalition framework. He highlighted the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to defense reform and modernization, particularly within the Ministry of Peshmerga.
Talks also addressed recent regional security threats. Barzani and the British delegation underlined the need to end drone and terrorist attacks that have recently targeted the Kurdistan Region.
They emphasized the importance of fully respecting the Region’s constitutional status. Protecting the financial rights of the Kurdish people also featured heavily in the discussion.
Additionally, the meeting touched on developments across the Middle East, including the conflict in Syria. Both parties agreed that ongoing cooperation is essential for confronting shared threats and advancing regional peace.
The visit shows growing ties between the Kurdistan Region and the UK in security and reform.
