A Woman Dies After Injection in Erbil’s Kani Qirzhala Area

A woman dies after injection in Erbil’s Kani Qirzhala area, triggering public concern and an official investigation. The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Health will take legal action if it confirms medical negligence.

Kawsar Mohammed, a 61-year-old resident of Erbil, became the victim. Her family says she died shortly after receiving medical injections at a local pharmacy in the Kani Qirzhala neighborhood.

Therefore, the incident has raised questions about medical practices in private pharmacies and the proper administration of injections. The woman’s family claims a nurse administered injections incorrectly. They say the nurse gave the medication through a cannula, even though it should have been injected into the muscle.

Moreover, Bahadar Qadir, the eldest son of the deceased, said his mother was suffering from a seasonal illness. He said his mother only had a simple cold and that it was not a serious condition. “She asked us to take her to a pharmacy for an injection.”

Furthermore, Bahadar said the doctor at the pharmacy told them the illness was minor. He prescribed eight injections. The nurse inserted a cannula and told the family to give one injection after meals. Bahadar said his mother’s condition worsened right after the injection. Her health declined rapidly at home.

The family contacted the nurse, who told them to bring her back to the pharmacy. Once there, the nurse reportedly gave her three more injections. After that, she lost consciousness on the spot.

The nurse reportedly told the family there was nothing serious wrong. He advised them to take her to Erbil Emergency Hospital. However, doctors there later told the family that Kawsar Mohammed had already died.

This case marks another tragic moment where a woman dies after injection in Erbil under unclear medical circumstances.

The family says hospital doctors told them the injection should have gone into the muscle and should not have been given through a cannula.

The family believes this mistake caused her death. They have now filed a legal complaint against the nurse.

The nurse involved rejected the accusations. He said that he had given the same injection to the woman several times in the past without any complications.

The nurse said doctors commonly use the medication to treat seasonal colds and allergies.. He also said the woman had no known prior reactions.

The nurse confirmed that the family has filed a lawsuit. He added that he is ready to appear in court.

Dr. Saman Barzanji, Kurdistan’s Minister of Health, confirmed that the ministry has opened an official investigation.

He urged the woman’s family to visit the ministry in person. He said authorities will review the case carefully.

“If negligence is proven, the nurse will be punished according to the law,” Barzanji said.

As the investigation continues, the case of a woman dies after injection in Erbil has renewed calls for stricter oversight of medical services in local pharmacies.
