The Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs announced that a wounded Peshmerga fighter has died after an earlier Iranian missile attack. The fighter passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, after 15 days in hospital.
According to the statement, the Peshmerga was identified as Waisi Akhar Saeed Sherwani. He served in the 5th Infantry Brigade under the First Division of the ministry. He had been injured during a missile strike on Peshmerga positions in the Soran border area. Despite medical treatment in Erbil, his condition worsened. As a result, he later died from severe injuries.
The ministry expressed condolences to his family and to the people of Kurdistan. It also strongly condemned the attack. In addition, the statement described the strikes as unjustified and illegal. Officials said such attacks target both Peshmerga forces and civilians. Therefore, they called for an end to these assaults.
The original attack took place on March 24, 2026. On that day, Iranian forces launched six ballistic missiles in two separate strikes. The attacks targeted positions of the 7th and 5th Infantry Brigades in the Soran border area. As a result, six Peshmerga fighters were killed and 30 others were wounded. The latest death raises the toll from those attacks.
Because of this, Kurdish officials continue to warn about growing threats in border areas. They also call for greater protection and accountability. The ministry stressed the need to prevent further attacks. Therefore, it urged stronger efforts to protect both security forces and civilians in the Kurdistan Region.
