Yazidi Genocide Linked to Ethnic and Religious Identity

Eleven years after the Sinjar massacre, Kurdish leaders have reaffirmed that ISIS targeted the Yazidi community due to their Kurdish heritage and religious beliefs. The tragedy reflects a broader pattern of violence against Kurdish people throughout history.

The 2014 genocide involved extreme brutality, leaving deep scars on survivors and their families. Analysts note that ISIS deliberately attacked Yazidis for their distinct identity and faith. Kurdish forces, however, swiftly mobilized to rescue displaced families and reclaim Sinjar from militants.

International allies provided critical support during the liberation efforts. Coalition airstrikes and ground assistance helped Kurdish fighters defeat ISIS in the region. Despite this victory, many Yazidis still struggle to rebuild their lives after losing homes and loved ones.

Kurdish officials continue demanding justice for genocide victims. They urge the Iraqi government to provide compensation and recognize past atrocities. Additionally, they call for an end to discriminatory policies that marginalize Kurdish communities.

Survivors and activists emphasize the need for long-term stability in Sinjar. Many displaced families remain unable to return due to security concerns and lack of reconstruction. Meanwhile, memorials honor those who lost their lives in the genocide.

The international community has condemned the atrocities, yet justice remains incomplete. Legal efforts continue to hold ISIS members accountable for war crimes. Meanwhile, Kurdish leaders push for political reforms to prevent future persecution.
