Zakho will soon enjoy uninterrupted electricity as part of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Runaki program. By October, residents and businesses in the Zakho independent administration will receive 24-hour power.
Aziz Ahmad, Deputy Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, confirmed the development through a statement and a post on platform X. He stated that the upgrade is a key step in delivering stable and affordable electricity to all parts of the Kurdistan Region.
“No more cuts. No more circuit trips,” Ahmad wrote, highlighting the end of long-standing power issues in Zakho.
This upgrade forms part of a larger regional promise. In 2023, Prime Minister Barzani committed to providing full-day electricity for all homes and businesses across the Kurdistan Region by the end of 2026. Earlier this year, the KRG’s Ninth Cabinet reaffirmed that goal as one of its top priorities.
The Runaki program represents a major investment in infrastructure. It aims not only to improve everyday life but also to boost economic development. The plan focuses on modernizing public services and closing gaps in energy access across cities and towns.
Zakho’s upcoming upgrade signals clear progress in that effort.
