Duhok Cucumber Production Expected to Reach 105,000 Tons in 2025

DUHOK, Kurdistan Region – Duhok cucumber production is set for a strong year in 2025. According to officials, the region could produce up to 105,000 tons of cucumbers this season. The announcement came from Ahmad Jamil, Director of Agriculture in Duhok.

He confirmed that more than 9,000 dunams of land are currently used for cucumber farming. “About 9,192 dunams have been cultivated with cucumbers across Duhok and surrounding areas,” Jamil stated. He added that the region has nearly 5,000 greenhouses dedicated to this crop.

Since mid-April, greenhouse cucumbers have started to reach the markets. Jamil said, “Greenhouse cucumbers began ripening on April 15 and are now available for sale.” Meanwhile, field-grown cucumbers are just beginning to ripen.

Thanks to favorable weather and government support, Duhok cucumber production is steadily increasing. Jamil noted that both greenhouse and field varieties are contributing to the expected total of 105,000 tons.

He credited the growing interest in agriculture to the Kurdistan Regional Government’s efforts. “There is more focus on farming now,” he said. “People are turning to agriculture as demand and market prices improve.”

Previously, cucumber prices were low, hovering around 100 dinars per kilogram. However, Jamil highlighted a positive change in the market. “Prices are now better, and products are selling well,” he confirmed.

The growth in Duhok cucumber production shows how agricultural development is becoming a priority. Farmers now find more value in local markets. Strong demand supports fair prices and encourages continued cultivation.

As production expands, more consumers in Kurdistan will benefit from locally grown cucumbers. This shift also reduces dependence on imported goods. With improved planning and support, officials expect even greater results in the future.

In conclusion, Duhok’s agricultural sector is thriving. Cucumber farming leads the way as farmers respond to growing market needs.
