Iraq Faces Global Outrage After Deadly Attack on Duhok IDP Camp

Iraq faces fresh criticism after a deadly explosion struck the Darkar IDP camp in Duhok province. The camp, home to displaced Yezidis, suffered damage from the attack. The United Nations strongly condemned the strike, calling it a clear violation of human rights.

The Darkar camp, located in Zakho’s Darkar sub-district, shelters many displaced Yezidi families. These families already faced years of suffering from conflict and violence. The explosion has now worsened their struggles, leaving them more vulnerable.

The United Nations issued a statement condemning the attack in strong terms. It stressed the urgent need to protect all displacement camps across Iraq. The UN said such places must remain safe zones, free from violence or military actions.

The attack on the Darkar camp shocked many across Iraq and beyond. According to local reports, a suicide drone hit the camp around midnight. While no human casualties were reported, the blast caused serious material damage. The destruction has left many families afraid and unsure about their safety.

The United Nations called on Iraq’s government to take immediate action. It urged authorities to launch a full investigation and punish those responsible. The UN also demanded steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The global body emphasized the government’s duty to protect displaced people. It reminded Iraq that these camps house vulnerable groups who have endured enough trauma. Restoring safety and dignity for all camp residents must be a top priority.

International law protects displacement camps from any form of attack. The strike on Darkar camp broke those laws, deepening fears among Yezidi families. Many residents now worry about future threats and wonder whether the camp remains a safe place.

As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the drone attack. However, security forces have begun investigations to find out who launched the strike. Officials in Duhok province say they will closely monitor the situation to prevent further violence.

Local leaders and aid groups have also urged calm and patience. They asked residents to stay alert while authorities work to secure the area. Meanwhile, repairs to damaged parts of the camp have already started.

The Darkar camp attack highlights growing dangers for displaced people in Iraq. It also raises urgent questions about the safety of other camps in the region.
