Barzani and US Consul Discuss Oil and Regional Rights in Erbil

In Erbil, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with outgoing US Consul General Steve Bitner to discuss vital regional issues. During their meeting, both officials emphasized the urgent need to resume oil exports. They agreed that restoring these exports remains essential for the economic stability of the Kurdistan Region.

Moreover, Barzani and Bitner stressed the importance of protecting the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional rights. They also agreed that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) must secure its fair share of financial entitlements. This includes ensuring that budget transfers are consistent and transparent.

Throughout their conversation, they also highlighted the role of the United States in supporting the Kurdistan Region. Barzani expressed appreciation for Washington’s continued cooperation and diplomatic engagement. In return, Bitner reaffirmed the US commitment to a stable and prosperous Kurdistan Region.

Furthermore, the two officials discussed the significance of upholding the Kurdistan Region as a recognized federal entity. They underlined that preserving this status benefits both local governance and regional stability.

As the meeting concluded, Prime Minister Barzani thanked Bitner for his service and dedication. Meanwhile, Bitner praised the strong relationship between the KRG and the US government, promising ongoing support even after his term.
