Zakho Corniche Boosts Tourism and Revives City Life

Zakho – The second phase of Zakho’s Corniche project is reshaping the city’s landscape and attracting a surge in tourism. With 85% of the work already complete, the transformation is clearly visible.

The new 3-kilometer riverside promenade features walking paths, vibrant gardens, and newly planted trees. Alongside the river, families now enjoy cleaner air, better views, and more green space than ever before. The project also includes restored historical landmarks, giving both locals and visitors a chance to connect with Zakho’s rich past.

Tourism in Zakho has already jumped by 40% since the start of construction. Local officials now expect those numbers to double once the Corniche reaches full completion. Visitors are arriving from all parts of the Kurdistan Region and beyond to explore the area’s natural beauty and cultural charm.

The city has also seen a rise in small businesses around the Corniche, including cafes, shops, and restaurants. These developments are creating jobs and boosting the local economy. As a result, Zakho is quickly becoming a must-visit destination for travelers seeking relaxation and heritage in one place.

The final stages of the Corniche will include more lighting, benches, and access points, making the riverside even more inviting.
