The Kurdistan Regional Government has urged Baghdad to release public salaries for June without further delay. Erbil confirmed that it completed all required steps, including sending a verified payroll list to the federal authorities.
During its weekly cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, the KRG focused on the financial situation. The ministers discussed salary payments for both June and July. These payments fall under the 2023–2025 budget agreement between Erbil and Baghdad.
Finance Minister Awat Sheikh Janab said the payroll and budget schedule for June had already reached Baghdad. He stressed that responsibility for payment now lies with the federal Ministry of Finance.
Meanwhile, the KRG confirmed it will cover debts owed to local oil companies. These payments will come from the oil consumed within the Kurdistan Region. The government also stated that its next oil shipment is ready for export. It will be handed over to the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO) for transport through the port of Ceyhan.
Last week, the KRG Ministry of Finance deposited nearly 975 billion dinars—about $698 million—into its Central Bank account in Erbil. These funds were designated for May salaries, and disbursement is now underway.
Despite a legal agreement, payments often face delays. Ongoing disputes and mistrust continue to block smooth implementation of the budget deal.
