On the anniversary of the Barzani genocide, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani called for serious federal action. During his remarks, he urged Baghdad to take full responsibility for past crimes. He emphasized the importance of justice for victims of the Anfal campaign and chemical attacks.
Barzani strongly criticized the continued neglect of these victims. He said the federal government has failed to properly address their rights. Despite repeated calls for action, victims still face marginalization. This injustice, according to Barzani, must end immediately.
He noted that thousands of innocent people lost their lives during these brutal campaigns. Families continue to suffer without proper recognition or support. The government’s silence on these issues only adds to the pain.
Barzani stressed that remembering the genocide should come with real steps toward accountability. He said symbolic gestures are not enough. True justice requires action, not just words.
Additionally, he demanded that all Kurdish victims receive full legal and moral recognition. He called for compensation and public acknowledgment of their suffering. Without this, national reconciliation cannot be achieved.
Many in Erbil and across the region echoed his demands. They expect stronger efforts to end decades of injustice. Barzani’s message added new urgency to this long-standing issue.
