Second Phase of Erbil Water Project Nears Completion

The second phase of the Erbil Emergency Water Project will reach completion by mid-November. Officials confirmed that the work is progressing quickly to meet the deadline. They emphasized that the project aims to improve water supply and reduce pressure on underground resources.

Currently, Erbil depends on 1,380 water wells. However, the local plan will close over 1,000 of them by 2026. This measure will help preserve valuable groundwater reserves for future generations. Authorities explained that these wells have been a main source for years, yet heavy reliance has caused noticeable declines in water levels.

With this project, officials intend to shift the city toward more sustainable water sources. Therefore, they are expanding infrastructure to deliver treated water from alternative supplies. They also highlighted that the project will support both residential areas and vital sectors such as agriculture and industry.

Furthermore, the government is working closely with engineers to ensure high-quality construction and timely progress. New pipelines, pumping stations, and treatment facilities will soon operate at full capacity. As a result, residents can expect more stable water distribution throughout the year.

In addition, public awareness campaigns will encourage people to use water efficiently. The goal is to combine infrastructure improvements with responsible consumption habits. This strategy will protect resources while meeting the city’s growing needs.
