Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani held an important meeting with Joshua Harris, the Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Iraq. The two leaders gathered in Erbil to focus on Iraq and US bilateral relations while also addressing internal challenges between Erbil and Baghdad.
The Presidency of the Kurdistan Region confirmed that the discussion covered Iraq’s economic situation and financial conditions in the Region. Both sides examined pressing issues such as the upcoming general elections, the payment of salaries for public sector employees, and unresolved financial entitlements. They stressed that Iraq and US bilateral relations require practical solutions that bring stability to the Kurdish Region and the rest of Iraq.
Harris highlighted Washington’s ongoing commitment to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. He reaffirmed that the United States supports deeper cooperation with Erbil. He also underlined the value of expanding areas of joint work that promote security and prosperity. Iraq and US bilateral relations, according to Harris, remain central to American engagement in the Middle East.
The meeting further addressed regional stability. Barzani and Harris discussed the need to maintain counterterrorism efforts, particularly against the threat of ISIS. Both agreed that Iraq and US bilateral relations provide a strong framework for security cooperation in the region.
