Restoring Historic Sites in Duhok

A French archaeological organization now leads restoration efforts for six historic sites in Amedi. Consequently, Duhok’s Directorate of Antiquities and Heritage confirms this major project. Moreover, they state the renovations will significantly boost regional tourism.

The General Director of Antiquities in Duhok, Dr. Bekas Brifkani, officially announced the partnership. Therefore, the French group “X-Pretis France” will perform the restoration work. This important initiative will focus on Amedi’s most prominent landmarks. Furthermore, the entire project is scheduled for completion within one year.

The restoration plan includes several key historical locations. For instance, workers will renovate the Quba Han School and the Great Mosque of Amedi. Additionally, they will repair the Chaldean Church and the Miran Cemetery. The project also includes the Sirich Circle and the Pirhazan Tomb.

The Kurdistan Region possesses a rich cultural heritage. In fact, it contains nearly five thousand historical and cultural sites. Duhok Governorate alone boasts two thousand seven hundred of these treasures. Therefore, this high concentration makes Duhok a leader in cultural assets. Ultimately, these sites provide immense tourism benefits for the entire area.
