Kurdistan Actor’s Historic Film Dream

Veteran Kurdish actor Mistafa Ahmed recently shared his greatest artistic ambition. He has spent over six decades in acting. His most cherished dream involves producing a major film. This film would focus on the historic Damdam Castle story.

Ahmed spoke during the Sulaymaniyah International Film Festival’s fifth edition. He initially began his acting career back in 1958. At that time, he was just eleven years old. He first performed a role as an “Agha” in elementary school. Furthermore, he is best known for his comedic character “Wasta Ali”. However, he insists a good actor must handle all types of roles.

For instance, he considers his serious part in “Khuallapizza” a major challenge. He even sold his own house to finance that film. Consequently, audiences were stunned by his powerful dramatic performance. One woman reportedly told him she was relieved he survived.

Ahmed also humorously discussed his family life. He is a father to four sons. He always wished for a daughter. He named one son “Hemen” despite a poet friend’s joking objection to the name.

Moreover, the actor reflected on industry changes. He learned his craft through theater in a different era. Today, he celebrates the many new channels and academic centers available. Nevertheless, his biggest goal remains unfulfilled.

Therefore, he hopes to finally create his epic Damdam film. He once discussed the project with the late Mam Jalal. This project would naturally require a very large budget. It needs period costumes, horses, and a massive set. Ultimately, Ahmed continues to seek significant financial backing for this lifelong passion project about Kurdish history.
