Central Bank Grants License to Kurdistan-Owned Nishtiman Bank

The Central Bank of Iraq has officially granted a banking license to Nishtiman Bank, marking a key milestone for the Kurdistan Region’s financial sector. The announcement came from the Ministry of Finance and Economy on Monday, confirming the bank’s formal recognition within the country’s regulated financial system.

According to the ministry’s statement, Nishtiman Bank—owned by the Kurdistan Region—will now operate under the supervision of the Central Bank of Iraq. The move strengthens financial integration and represents a significant step toward expanding the region’s banking capabilities and economic independence.

The ministry also invited employees of commercial banks affiliated with the Kurdistan Regional Government who wish to transfer their salaries to Nishtiman Bank to complete an online application form. Selected applicants will later be contacted for interviews as part of the bank’s onboarding process.

Officials described the licensing as an important development that enhances public trust, encourages investment, and promotes a stronger financial infrastructure.
