PM Barzani to Inaugurate Strategic Erbil–Duhok Gas Pipeline for New 1000MW Power Plant

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani is set to inaugurate the strategic Erbil–Duhok gas pipeline, a $591 million project that will deliver clean energy to a newly built 1000-megawatt power station in Duhok.

The project marks a major step in the Kurdistan Regional Government’s plan to expand energy infrastructure and reduce dependence on imported fuels. By channeling natural gas directly from Erbil to Duhok, the pipeline will ensure a more stable and sustainable electricity supply across the region.

Officials said the new system will help cut production costs, improve environmental standards, and strengthen energy security. The 1000MW station, once fully operational, will serve millions of residents and businesses in Duhok and neighboring provinces.

Prime Minister Barzani emphasized that the project reflects the KRG’s vision of balanced development, energy diversification, and self-sufficiency. He noted that investment in gas infrastructure not only boosts economic growth but also supports long-term environmental goals.

The inauguration of the pipeline and power station stands as one of the largest energy initiatives in the Kurdistan Region, highlighting the government’s commitment to sustainable progress and modern public services.
