European Youth Leader Urges Global Recognition of Kurdish Genocide at Duhok Conference

During the Fifth International Scientific Conference at Duhok University, European youth leader Javier Hurtado Mira called for worldwide recognition of the Kurdish genocide. He underscored the need for education, dialogue, and international cooperation to prevent similar atrocities in the future.

Mira described the genocide as one of the darkest chapters in modern history and stressed that global awareness is essential for justice and reconciliation. He urged scholars, policymakers, and youth organizations to work together to preserve historical memory and protect human rights.

The conference gathered academics, officials, and students to discuss genocide documentation, transitional justice, and the moral responsibilities of the international community. Mira praised the people of Kurdistan for choosing forgiveness and rebuilding their homeland through resilience and unity.

He also criticized Baghdad’s continued salary cuts against public employees in the Kurdistan Region, describing them as a form of “economic genocide” that punishes civilians and deepens social inequality.

Participants agreed that acknowledgment from global institutions would help honor victims and strengthen the legal basis for international recognition. The event concluded with a call for continued research and collaboration between Kurdistan’s universities and European institutions to promote truth, justice, and peace.
