Barham Salih Nominates Himself for an International Position

Erbil – A source close to former Iraqi President Barham Salih revealed that he has nominated himself for a high-level international post, signaling his intention to expand his political role to the global stage.

According to the source, the position is linked to one of the major international organizations focused on issues such as the environment, international relations, and the promotion of peace. Since leaving office in 2022, Salih has remained active in international and regional affairs.

The source added that Salih seeks to contribute on a larger, global scale, particularly in areas related to climate change and the strengthening of democratic systems in developing regions.

Recently, he held several key meetings with international envoys and organizations, aiming to play a more influential role in shaping global policy.

Salih, who maintains strong ties with various global institutions and political networks, previously led the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and promoted numerous initiatives focused on democratic reform and environmental awareness during his presidency.

If confirmed, this move would make him one of the most prominent Kurdish political figures to assume a significant international position.

Political observers say the step reflects Salih’s readiness to re-enter the global political arena as an active and influential voice.
