President Barzani Advocates Constitution, Türkiye Peace, and Syrian Federalism

President Nechirvan Barzani spoke at the MEPS forum, addressing key regional and domestic issues. He criticized Baghdad for violating constitutional federalism, noting that Kurdistan’s rights must be fully respected. Moreover, he called for Kurdish unity in Iraq’s government formation to strengthen political leverage and ensure fair representation.

Barzani also expressed strong support for Türkiye’s ongoing peace process. He argued that dialogue and negotiation remain the only sustainable solutions to regional conflicts. Furthermore, he emphasized that constructive engagement promotes security and stability across borders.

In addition, Barzani proposed a federal model for Syria to address governance challenges there. He stressed that decentralization can prevent conflict and provide communities with greater self-management. He noted that such a model aligns with principles of justice and political inclusivity.

Throughout his speech, Barzani linked domestic governance, regional cooperation, and international frameworks. He argued that constitutional implementation in Iraq, support for Türkiye’s peace efforts, and federal solutions in Syria can reinforce stability. He also urged political actors to focus on practical steps rather than partisan disputes.

Barzani concluded by highlighting that unity, law, and dialogue remain essential for Kurdistan’s security and development. Observers now expect Kurdish leaders to pursue these goals actively, both within Iraq and in the broader region.
