Ahmet Davutoğlu Says Türkiye Seeks a Stronger Partnership with the Kurdistan Region

Ahmet Davutoğlu highlighted Türkiye’s desire for a deeper and more stable relationship with the Kurdistan Region as regional diplomacy continues to evolve. He emphasized this point during recent remarks, and he stressed that both sides benefit when they build long-term political and economic cooperation. Moreover, he argued that mutual trust grows when leaders communicate clearly and address concerns directly.

Davutoğlu praised the Kurdistan Region’s economic progress. He noted growing investment, rising commercial activity, and stronger regional infrastructure. Furthermore, he said Türkiye values a dynamic Kurdish economy because it strengthens cross-border trade and encourages stability. He also urged both governments to expand joint projects that support sustained growth.

He then recalled Türkiye’s assistance to the Kurdistan Region during the fight against ISIS. He explained that shared security interests brought both sides closer, and he stated that cooperation during conflict created strong foundations for lasting partnership. Additionally, he encouraged continuous coordination because new security threats require constant attention.

Davutoğlu also addressed the current peace process. He expressed support for ongoing efforts to reduce tensions inside Türkiye. He argued that political dialogue offers the best path forward, and he said reconciliation creates room for democratic participation and broader civil rights. Moreover, he urged all sides to protect political freedoms and encourage open debate.

Finally, Davutoğlu called for the release of Selahattin Demirtaş. He stated that Türkiye benefits from inclusive politics, and he argued that democratic competition grows when all major voices participate freely. He also urged legal reforms that protect political expression and reinforce public trust.

Through these remarks, Davutoğlu encouraged stronger ties, deeper cooperation, and renewed dialogue across the region.
