Kurdistan – PM Masrour Barzani and Japanese Delegation Strengthen Growing Partnership

PM Masrour Barzani welcomed a high-level Japanese delegation in Erbil and launched a renewed push to strengthen the Kurdistan–Japan partnership. The prime minister greeted the delegation warmly and thanked Japan for its continuous support. The meeting then moved quickly to regional developments, economic projects, and the growing need for deeper cooperation.

The Japanese representatives condemned the recent terrorist attack on the Khor Mor gas field. They expressed full solidarity with the Kurdistan Region and stressed their concern for energy security. Moreover, they highlighted the bravery of emergency teams who worked to contain the impact. PM Barzani appreciated this support and described the attack as a direct threat to the Region’s progress.

The delegation also praised the stability and development of the Kurdistan Region. They noted rapid growth in infrastructure, energy projects, and technology sectors. Additionally, they emphasized that Japanese companies seek long-term opportunities in the Region because they trust its stable business environment. PM Barzani welcomed this interest and encouraged more Japanese investment across industry, agriculture, health, and education.

Furthermore, both sides explored new cooperation mechanisms. They discussed scholarships for Kurdish students, cultural exchange programs, and training opportunities. The prime minister stressed that stronger ties with Japan help the Region build a modern and diverse economy. The delegation agreed and expressed readiness to expand projects that support youth, innovation, and sustainable development.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to steady progress. PM Barzani and the delegation reaffirmed their desire to deepen strategic cooperation and build a stronger partnership that benefits both peoples.
