Kurdistan – Adnan Osman Announces Major Lineup for Birmingham Kurdish Film Festival

Adnan Osman, a key member of the Birmingham Kurdish Film Festival selection committee, revealed new details about the upcoming event scheduled for February 2026. He explained that the festival team reviewed nearly 350 Kurdish films over recent months. Moreover, he noted that submissions arrived from every part of Kurdistan and from Kurdish filmmakers across the global diaspora. The large turnout thrilled the committee and strengthened the festival’s growing reputation.

The festival aims to promote Kurdish cinema on an international stage. Osman highlighted the rising number of young directors and praised their creativity. He explained that many new filmmakers explore social issues, identity struggles, and cultural resilience. Additionally, he emphasized that the festival encourages diverse storytelling and supports independent voices.

The organizers now prepare an ambitious program. They plan screenings, workshops, debates, and cultural exhibitions. Furthermore, they want to create direct links between filmmakers, critics, and audiences. Osman stressed that these activities help Kurdish cinema grow and evolve. He also encouraged Kurdish artists to continue producing films that reflect real experiences and strong cultural heritage.

The festival team works intensively to finalize the schedule. They examine each film carefully and measure artistic quality, originality, and emotional impact. Meanwhile, they coordinate with international partners to secure venues, media coverage, and special guests. Osman expects the 2026 edition to attract large audiences and strengthen cultural ties within the Kurdish community.

The Birmingham Kurdish Film Festival now stands as one of the most significant cultural platforms for Kurdish filmmakers. The organizers plan to celebrate talent, inspire new creators, and expand global appreciation for Kurdish cinema.
