Heavy rains swept across Chamchamal on Wednesday and created deadly flash floods that overwhelmed several neighborhoods. The sudden surge of water struck the district with immense force and caused widespread damage within minutes. Emergency teams rushed into the affected areas and moved quickly to assist families who faced rising water levels around their homes.
Sharif Rahim, Deputy Director General of Health in Chamchamal, said the floods claimed two lives in the Shorsh sub-district. He also noted that several residents suffered injuries during the chaotic moments when the water swept through streets and low-lying homes. Medical teams treated the injured and then transferred serious cases to nearby hospitals for further care.
Roads flooded rapidly, and drivers struggled to navigate as water covered long stretches of the main routes. Authorities closed several roads around Chamchamal to prevent more accidents and guided travelers toward safer detours. The closures created heavy traffic, yet they also reduced the risk of further casualties.
Rescue teams continued their work through the evening. They searched damaged areas, evacuated families from high-risk locations, and delivered urgent support to elderly residents who could not move quickly. The district administration also warned that unstable weather could bring more rain, so teams remain on high alert.
Despite the destruction, the heavy rainfall added new water to the region’s reservoirs. Local officials reported rising levels that may ease long-term water shortages. Even so, the community now focuses on recovery and immediate safety.
