Kurdistan – Zebari and Ollongren Advance Dialogue Efforts in Brussels

Dr. Dindar Zebari held key meetings in Brussels as he continued the KRG’s push for deeper engagement with European institutions. He met EU Envoy Kajsa Ollongren, and the discussion created new momentum for a structured political channel. Ollongren praised the Kurdistan Regional Government and described it as an “exemplary partner,” a description that strengthened the tone of the talks.

Zebari outlined the KRG’s recent reforms and highlighted progress across human rights, institutional transparency, and digital governance. He also emphasized the Ninth Cabinet’s commitment to align its institutions with European standards. Moreover, he stressed the importance of regular communication, since predictable dialogue builds trust and improves coordination.

Ollongren welcomed these points and encouraged sustained cooperation. She also underlined the EU’s interest in stable partners, especially in regions that influence wider continental security. Because of this shared interest, both sides explored ways to create a formal mechanism that supports continuous political dialogue. They also studied potential platforms that streamline cooperation on migration, development, and counter-terrorism.

Furthermore, Zebari used the meeting to highlight the KRG’s experience in hosting large displaced populations. He argued that stronger recognition of this role strengthens humanitarian planning. He also encouraged EU institutions to broaden support for local resilience programs, which help vulnerable families rebuild stability.

Both sides agreed to maintain momentum and schedule follow-up meetings. Zebari concluded the visit with optimism, since the talks strengthened the KRG’s position within Europe and expanded opportunities for future cooperation. Brussels, in turn, signaled clear readiness for a deeper relationship.
