Kurdistan – Talabani Highlights Major Dam Progress Despite Financial Crisis

Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani highlighted the Ninth Cabinet’s record achievements in dam and pond construction during a period of severe financial pressure. He emphasized continuous progress and stressed that the Region witnessed real benefits from these water projects. Moreover, he explained that the cabinet delivered most of the planned structures and strengthened the Region’s long-term water security.

Talabani noted that these projects improved agriculture, protected communities, and supported economic resilience. He added that many districts now store more water and manage rainfall more effectively. Furthermore, he underlined that local farmers gained new advantages because reliable water sources increased crop stability. He stated that the Region moved toward greater sustainability as each new project created measurable improvements.

The Deputy Prime Minister also addressed the broader financial situation. He explained that the Region faced severe budget restrictions but still protected essential infrastructure programs. He argued that strategic planning allowed the government to move forward while other regions struggled with delays. Additionally, he affirmed that determined leadership and disciplined spending ensured steady work across all major water projects.

Talabani then encouraged continued cooperation among ministries. He said that strong coordination accelerates construction, reduces obstacles, and improves overall efficiency. He also urged citizens to value these projects, since water security strengthens every sector. As the Region continues to expand service delivery, he expressed confidence in the long-term impact of these investments.

He concluded by calling for broader support for future dams. He noted that climate challenges require proactive action, and he urged international partners to join new initiatives.
