Kurdistan: Flights Halted at Erbil Airport Amid Heavy Fog

Erbil International Airport suspended all flights after dense fog reduced visibility across the area. Airport officials prioritized passenger safety as conditions worsened throughout the morning. Moreover, the fog created serious challenges for takeoff and landing operations.

Ahmed Hoshyar, General Director of Erbil International Airport, confirmed the decision during official remarks. He explained that airport authorities acted quickly to prevent potential risks. Additionally, he noted that safety remains the top operational priority.

Furthermore, Hoshyar stated that weather conditions continue changing unpredictably. He emphasized that officials cannot yet determine when flights will resume. Meanwhile, air traffic control teams continue monitoring visibility levels closely.

Transitioning to passenger concerns, airport staff assisted stranded travelers inside the terminal. They provided updates and guidance regarding delays and cancellations. In addition, airlines coordinated with airport management to manage schedules.

Moreover, several domestic and international flights experienced disruptions due to the fog. Travelers adjusted plans as airlines explored alternative arrangements. Consequently, officials advised passengers to remain in contact with their airlines.

Airport authorities also coordinated with meteorological services for continuous weather updates. These reports help determine safe operating windows. Additionally, emergency teams remained on standby throughout the suspension period.

Transitioning to broader impacts, transportation officials acknowledged delays across the region. Road traffic also slowed as visibility dropped significantly. Therefore, authorities urged drivers to exercise caution.

Meanwhile, airport officials reassured the public about readiness once conditions improve. Crews prepared equipment and staff for immediate resumption. Moreover, they stressed that operations will restart only under safe conditions.

Finally, officials thanked passengers for patience and cooperation. They reiterated that safety decisions guide all operational actions. Authorities pledged transparent communication until normal operations resume.
