Soran Attracts Millions as Snowfall Forecast Continues

Soran continues to rank among the most visited tourist destinations in the Kurdistan Region, welcoming around 1.5 million visitors each year. The district attracts tourists from across the region and beyond, largely due to its natural landscapes and winter scenery. Mount Korek remains the main attraction, especially during the snow season.

Local tourism officials stated that winter plays a major role in boosting visitor numbers. Snow-covered mountains, resorts, and recreational facilities draw families and travelers seeking seasonal activities. In addition, improved infrastructure and services have helped strengthen Soran’s position as a leading tourism hub.

Meanwhile, meteorologists predict another wave of snow and rainfall between January 12 and January 15. Weather experts expect the system to bring colder temperatures and snowfall, particularly in mountainous areas. These conditions may further enhance winter tourism while also requiring caution on roads and travel routes.

According to forecasts, the upcoming storm will affect several parts of the Kurdistan Region. Soran and surrounding districts may experience significant snowfall due to higher elevations. Authorities advised visitors to follow safety instructions and monitor weather updates during the period.

Tourism officials welcomed the forecast, noting that snowfall often increases visitor interest. They emphasized that Mount Korek’s winter views and facilities remain a major draw. At the same time, they urged coordination between tourism services and emergency teams to ensure visitor safety.

Local businesses expect increased activity as snowfall approaches. Hotels, restaurants, and transport services often see higher demand during winter peaks. However, officials stressed the importance of preparedness to handle weather-related challenges.

Overall, Soran’s strong tourism numbers reflect its growing appeal. With more snow expected in the coming days, the district remains a focal point for winter tourism while balancing safety and sustainability.
