Duhok Authorities Open New Road Linking City and Semel

Duhok authorities have completed a major road project linking the city to Semel district. The new highway now serves daily traffic. Officials confirmed the road has entered full operation.

The project stretches 2,400 meters. It connects key residential and commercial zones. As a result, travel time between Duhok and Semel has decreased.

Officials said the project cost reached 7.8 billion Iraqi dinars. They explained that local funding covered the full budget. Moreover, planners prioritized durability and safety standards.

Construction teams worked in stages over recent months. First, crews prepared the ground and drainage systems. Then, teams laid asphalt and reinforced shoulders. Finally, engineers installed traffic markings.

Authorities said the road supports long-term urban growth. Therefore, planners designed it to handle heavy vehicles. In addition, the route eases congestion on older access roads.

The new highway forms part of a broader development plan. Duhok officials said the province launched 1,340 projects in recent years. These projects cover infrastructure, services, and public facilities.

According to official data, about 85 percent of those projects now operate fully. Consequently, residents now access improved roads, schools, and utilities. Officials described this progress as steady and measurable.

Meanwhile, local residents welcomed the opening. Drivers reported smoother traffic flow. Business owners also noted easier transport for goods and services.

Furthermore, officials said the road improves regional connectivity. It links Duhok more closely with surrounding districts. As a result, economic activity may increase.

Authorities emphasized continued investment. They said future projects will target transport and public services. At the same time, planners aim to reduce pressure on urban centers.

The local government confirmed that monitoring will continue. Engineers will inspect the road regularly. Therefore, officials expect long-term performance.

Through this project, Duhok strengthens its transport network. The road now serves thousands daily. Officials said development remains a top priority.
