Masrour Barzani Says Syrian Kurds Deserve Recognition After Years of Suffering

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said Kurdish communities in Syria have endured years of suffering and deserve political recognition and protection. He made the remarks while speaking at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, which brought together global leaders to discuss governance and regional stability.

Barzani addressed the recent agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces and Damascus. He said the deal could help stabilize Syria if it respects the rights of all communities. He added that lasting peace requires inclusive political solutions rather than military pressure.

During his speech, Barzani stressed that Syrian Kurds paid a heavy price during years of conflict. He noted that many Kurds fought against extremist groups and defended their communities. Therefore, he argued that their sacrifices must receive political recognition.

Barzani also emphasized dialogue as the only viable path forward. He said cooperation between Syrian parties could prevent renewed conflict. At the same time, he warned that exclusion would deepen instability.

On the sidelines of the summit, Barzani held meetings with regional and international officials. In those discussions, he highlighted the Kurdistan Region’s role in promoting stability and mediation. He also called for continued international engagement in Syria.

The World Governments Summit focuses on global governance, economic development, and conflict resolution. This year’s event hosted dozens of heads of government and senior officials.

Barzani concluded that peace in Syria depends on justice and inclusion. He said ignoring Kurdish rights would undermine any agreement. Ultimately, he reaffirmed support for solutions that protect all components of Syrian society.
