President Nechirvan Barzani Meets French Foreign Minister in Kurdistan Region

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met on Wednesday with the French foreign minister in the Kurdistan Region. The meeting formed part of high-level diplomatic talks focused on regional political and security developments.

During the talks, both sides discussed the current situation across the region. They also exchanged views on developments in Western Kurdistan and efforts to reduce tensions. Officials stressed the need for continued dialogue and coordination to address emerging challenges.

The French foreign minister reaffirmed France’s interest in regional stability. He highlighted Paris’s support for political solutions and international cooperation. President Nechirvan Barzani, in turn, emphasized the importance of sustained international engagement to prevent further escalation and humanitarian risks.

The French Foreign Minister Kurdistan Region visit includes several meetings with senior Kurdish leaders. On Thursday, the minister is scheduled to meet Mazloum Abdi, commander-in-chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces. These talks will focus on security coordination and political dialogue related to Syria.

Officials said discussions will also cover counterterrorism efforts and regional security cooperation. France remains an active member of the international coalition against extremist groups. Therefore, cooperation with Kurdish partners continues to carry strategic importance.

Relations between France and the Kurdistan Region have remained strong over the years. French officials have consistently supported dialogue and stability initiatives. As a result, diplomatic visits to Erbil continue to play a key role in regional engagement.
