Syria Talks Advance as Nechirvan Barzani Meets Mazloum Abdi in Erbil

President Nechirvan Barzani met Syrian Democratic Forces commander Mazloum Abdi in Erbil on Thursday. The talks focused on developments in western Kurdistan and the wider situation in Syria. Moreover, both sides reviewed political and security conditions affecting the region.

During the meeting, Nechirvan Barzani and Mazloum Abdi discussed recent dialogue between Damascus and the SDF. They examined how the agreement could influence stability and security. Additionally, they stressed the importance of continued communication to reduce tensions.

The Nechirvan Barzani Mazloum Abdi meeting took place as Erbil hosted growing diplomatic activity. On the same day, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot arrived in the city. Kurdish officials welcomed him at Erbil International Airport.

Meanwhile, regional leaders continued consultations in Erbil. Earlier, Barrot held talks with President Nechirvan Barzani. They discussed political developments, regional security, and cooperation between France and the Kurdistan Region. Therefore, the visit highlighted Erbil’s expanding diplomatic role.

The Nechirvan Barzani Mazloum Abdi meeting also reflected broader international engagement. Western Kurdistan has remained a focal point for regional dialogue. As a result, Erbil has increasingly served as a platform for mediation and coordination.

Furthermore, officials emphasized dialogue as the preferred path forward. They stressed political solutions instead of escalation. Consequently, leaders underlined the need to protect stability and civilians across Syria.

On Friday, diplomatic activity will continue in Erbil. French officials plan additional meetings with Kurdish leaders. These talks will again address Syria, security challenges, and regional cooperation.

The Nechirvan Barzani Mazloum Abdi meeting underscored the Kurdistan Region’s active role in regional affairs. Through sustained engagement, Erbil continues to support dialogue, coordination, and long-term stability across neighboring regions.
